Our story

From the slipway
to the charter deck.

Our roots are in Indonesian phinisi construction. Over time we became charter specialists as well.

Komodo Boat Construction began with the craft of building wooden phinisi — the two-masted Indonesian sailing ships whose tradition goes back centuries. We believe a good voyage starts with a good vessel, so comfort and safety are designed into the hull, not added afterwards.

From boatbuilders we grew into charter specialists. That path gives us a view of the whole job, from the structural integrity of a hull to the service on deck, delivered by mariners, hospitality staff and local guides who know the region.

A truly exceptional journey begins with an exceptional vessel.

How we build

Traditional lines,
modern systems.

Shipwrights from families with deep maritime roots select the timber by hand. Beneath the decks sit modern navigation and engines.

  1. Ironwood and teak

Ulin and teak from responsibly managed Indonesian forests, chosen for durability and resistance to the elements.

  2. Built by hand

Keel laying to mast raising takes 12 to 18 months of hands-on work.

  3. Modern engineering

Navigation, efficient engines and stabilisation, integrated with contemporary naval architecture.

  4. Designed for safety

Every curve and joint serves structural integrity as well as looks.

The silhouette honours historic phinisi; what lies beneath the deck is built for reliability and comfort.
